Common Problems with Audio

 

Real Audio files seem to give people the most problems.  Please know that there are several types of urls, i.e. several protocols or methodologies, for streaming Real Audio files.  Here we use the http protocol on port 8080.

Please be assured that if you are unable to listen to the Real Audio files, nothing is wrong here, but one of the following problems is typical of new visitors:

  1. You are behind a corporate firewall that does not permit outbound connections on port 8080 (typical of some corporate environments).  There are no firewall settings in Real Player (or any other software) that can solve these types of firewall issues.  A typical symptom of this problem is getting an error 404 (file not found), when the file is actually there.

  2. You are using an ancient version of the Real Player.  Upgrade.  The current version is 8.

  3. You have a recent version of the Real Player, but have multiple web browsers installed on your PC.  We have seen this cause problems for people.  Try the other browser.

Windows Media format is also supported for those who prefer that format.  If you are having problems with the links to the Windows Media files, please be sure you have the latest player from Microsoft.

The Windows Media files are reached on port 1755 via TCP, not UDP.
